Deputies search for man accused of murder after Hammond shooting

HAMMOND, La. (WDSU) —

Officials are searching for a man who is accused of second-degree murder.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office identified 51-year-old Cornelius Beauchamp as the suspect in a shooting that killed a man and injured another in Hammond.

Deputies said they responded to a shooting incident on Dillon Lane Monday and discovered two men who had been shot and taken to the hospital.

TPSO officials said 29-year-old J.T. Douglas died upon arrival at the hospital.

The second victim, 37-year-old Travis Walker, is being treated for a gunshot wound, officials said, adding his injuries are listed as severe but he is expected to survive.

Warrants have been obtained and issued for the arrest of Beauchamp, who is being accused of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
