Deputy involved in officer-involved shooting has lengthy criminal record

In East Felician Parish, there are new details about the past of a deputy who shot and killed a man near a gas station.
We now know that man has multiple charges on his criminal record dating back to the early 1990’s.
Court documents show Deputy Glenn Sims was charged with illegal discharge of firearms in 1992, SImple Battery in 2004 and resisting an Officer in 2006. He served probation for that simple battery charge.
Investigators say Sims accidentally shot Christopher Whitfield during a struggle at an Ethel Convenience Store.
He was hired as a deputy in the 1990’s. The Sheriff’s Office says that they knew nothing about his criminal record.

Sims is out on administrative leave without pay pending the investigation.
