BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — One capital area restaurant cannot seem to catch a break after being impacted by a series of unfortunate events. The latest incident happened overnight Monday, when someone broke into the newest location and stole an ATM.
“I was devastated when I saw this last night,” said Brandon Owes, Manager of Mom’s Seafood & Deli.
Mom’s has been in business for over 20 years and has two locations in the Baton Rouge area.
The eatery is well known for its seafood, especially its shrimp fried rice and gumbo.
Despite its popularity, the road to success has not been an easy one.
Owes said, “Last year when Ida hit us, our store was gone, and now this.”
The manager is referring to the break-in that occurred around 1 a.m. A surveillance video seems to show someone using a hammer to break the glass and then chaining the ATM to their truck.
As of Monday evening, investigators are still working to identify the suspects who stole the location’s ATM.
Owes told BRProud this wasn’t an isolated incident. He said, “This is not the first time it happened to us. We got broken into three times already. So, it is getting harder and harder.”
It will take a lot of work to repair the damages caused by the suspects who stole the ATM, but Mom’s owners aren’t letting this stop them.
They told BRPRoud this latest event didn’t interrupt their ability to provide customers with their most popular dishes, and they’re determined to continue operating during normal business hours.
