DONALDSONVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – The student of the year at Donaldsonville High School wants to make her parents proud and is well on her way to doing so with a 4.2 GPA.
Laila Philip was born in Plaquemine and attended a handful of schools in Donaldsonville.
Prior to attending Donaldsonville High School, Philip went to Donaldsonville Primary School, Lowery Elementary School, and Lowery Middle School.
Philip has surely made Principal Marvin Evans proud as the current leader of the school said, “Actions speak louder than words!” Laila has a quiet personality, but her tenure as a student
leader in various areas of our school has set an example for her peers to admire and follow.”
Besides school, Philip enjoys being a cheerleader and delving into her favorite subject.
Philip said math was her favorite subject, “because it pushed me to keep going, even though it may be difficult.”
Speaking of being pushed, the student of the year highlighted one teacher at the school, Mrs. Spears.
Philip said Mrs. Spears “motivates us to keep going and teaches us to do things independently which prepares us for college.”
So what does the future hold for the student of the year at Donaldsonville High School?
Philip would like to become an RN and said that college is in her future.
Principal Evans had a lot of good things to say about Laila Philip.
Evans said, “Laila is our Student of the Year due to her body of work during her four years at DHS. She has excelled in both academic and extra-curricular activities. Her ability to earn and maintain a high GPA while actively involved in her church and community speaks loudly. The high school journey offers so much and she has taken full advantage of her opportunities. She has served in the SGA, Beta and DECA clubs while simultaneously earning several Industry Based Certifications.”
The principal concluded by saying that Philip enjoys service and that has guided her to want to be a nurse.
