BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Waste Management is picking up garbage again and now they will have more ways to get around when they start.
That is because of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has some good news.
The interstates throughout the area should be reopening in stages.
DOTD released this statement about the phased reopening of the interstates:
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the interstates in the Capital Region will begin to re-open today in various phases.
The current plan is to open I-10 westbound at LA 415 followed by I-10 westbound at the I-10/I-12 split, then I-10 eastbound at LA 415, then I-10 eastbound from Lafayette and finally from I-12 at Airline Highway.
DOTD has been working on I-110 and will now be able to focus more manpower and resources on this roadway, which is elevated and heavily iced. DOTD will advise when it has been re-opened.
“I would like to commend all of the hard working DOTD employees who have worked day and night to maintain and keep our roadways open as best as possible,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D. “These individuals have endured extreme frigid temperatures and spent the holiday away from family in order to keep our roadways functional.”
If travel is essential, DOTD urges motorists to use extra caution when traveling on roadways during hazardous weather conditions especially while traveling over bridges and elevated roadways and stay off the roads whenever possible.
