East Baton Rouge coroner holds news conference on latest overdose and homicide numbers

East Baton Rouge is breaking records this year in both homicides and overdoses.

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — With a little more than two months left in the year, East Baton Rouge Coroner Dr. Beau Clark is giving a news conference on the overdose and homicide data so far this year, which has surpassed any previous record.

This news conference comes on the heels of a deadly weekend in East Baton Rouge, where nearly half a dozen lives were lost in two suspected murder-suicides, one domestic homicide, and a deadly stabbing.

Parents of individuals who have overdosed are speaking at the news conference.

This year is the “most deadly year on record in EBRP history in regards to overdoses and homicides.”

The latest statistics on homicides and overdoses in EBR Parish can be found below:

  • 149 homicides so far in 2021 compared to 136 in all of 2020.
  • 248 overdoses already in 2021 compared to 242 in all of 2020.
