BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – East Baton Rouge (EBR) Parish officials are launching a new office that aims to help certain local business owners expand their outreach and utilize available opportunities.

According to EBR Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, the new Office of Supplier Diversity will serve as a means of support to socially and economically disadvantaged small businesses. It will accomplish this by taking on tasks that will create a level and more inclusive playing field for minority-owned firms.

During a Friday, August 26 meeting, officials will detail the means of assistance the new office will provide.

Broome invited local businesses who can benefit from the Office of Supplier Diversity to the Friday morning meeting, saying, “If you are a woman, minority, or veteran-owned small business, we invite you to join us 10 a.m., Friday, August 26, at the Valdry Center for Philanthropy at Southern University.”

“Our workshop will discuss certification, access to capital and bonding, and best practices for seeking procurement opportunities,” Broome continued. “Hope to see you there!”

The Valdry Center for Philanthropy is located at 598 Harding Boulevard on Southern University’s Baton Rouge campus.
