BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Campuses across East Baton Rouge (EBR) Parish opened their doors bright and early Monday, August 8 to welcome students back to class for the start of a new school year.

At Dufrocq Elementary School, students spent the day getting to know their teachers and learning what will be expected of them throughout the semester.

After a long day of firsts reached its conclusion, students headed to their on-campus pick up locations and came across a surprise.

They were met by some of the most recognizable faces in the Baton Rouge area, EBR Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, EBR Schools Superintendent Sito Narcisse, and Chief Murphy Paul.

The three community leaders waved goodbye to the kids and sent them home with words of encouragement. The children were all smiles and appeared to enjoy the exchange just as much as the three officials.
