BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The East Baton Rouge Parish (EBRP) Mayor’s Office and Tonja Myles with When You Are Ready BR and H&E Equipment Services are collaborating for an initiative to reduce opioid addiction in Baton Rouge.

Since 2018, EBRP has been rocked by a significant increase in drug overdose deaths, 88% of which are related to fentanyl. As of 2022, EBR is on track for the highest number of overdose deaths on record.

Local community leaders are determined to do something about the epidemic.

According to a Monday, July 18 press release from the Mayor’s Office, H&E Equipment Services, Inc. and Tonja Myles with the When You Are Ready Campaign are creating a program that will bring resources, education, and support to neighborhoods and individuals impacted by opioid addiction in EBRP.

A news conference regarding the initiative is scheduled to take place Wednesday (July 20) morning.
