BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – As school begins for many students in the area, Baton Rouge is trending in the wrong direction when it comes to homicides.
As of August 9, the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office is reporting 99 homicides since January 1.
At the same time last year, the parish stood at 77 homicides.
There have been more homicides in 2021 than in all of 2019.
The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office provided this breakdown of homicide numbers since 1999.
