EBR schools offer free meals to students during extended coronavirus closures


Those with kids might be thinking about alternative childcare options now since the Coronavirus Pandemic has taken kids out of school.
Although K-12 schools across Louisiana are closed, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, Superintendent Warren Drake says the district is adjusting
their plans day by day.

“There is no way that we could prepare for this particular pandemic. It’s just it’s unprecedented and so because
of that we have to make decisions for this particular incident, says EBRPS Superintendent Warren Drake.

Both Acension, Livingston and East Baton Rouge School make a few of the nearby districts that will begin offering meals to
students amid the closures.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s Child Nutrition Department will be serving free breakfast and lunch at seven
school sites across the parish beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Many child care facilities are choosing to remain open as long as they legally can.
Lynn Carmouche, and her staff at the Learning Center in Baton Rouge says their daycare will remain open to help local families.
