The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging has spent almost 20 years at 5790 Florida Blvd.
The process of moving out of the facility started today with the Lotus Center Groundbreaking Ceremony.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place at 1701 Main St.
According to the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging, “the existing facility required a complete demolition, remediation, and build out to bring the building up to a usable state.”
After it is completed, the Lotus Center will be 16,500 square feet and available to seniors in the community.
EBRCOA said, “in addition, the proposed replacement facility will meet the sheer volume and increase in senior membership that has exhausted the current location’s ability to accommodate the volume of visits daily.”
The new Lotus Center is expected to be done in March of 2021.
