The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging did not anticipate the vast number of people who waited in line.

The social services organization responded to the unexpected turnout with this statement below:

The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging (EBRCOA) would like to thank the community for their patience during this morning’s event – Replenish Your Refrigerator. It is our duty to address the needs of the senior community such as combatting senior hunger. However, the need was far greater than we had anticipated.

We apologize for any inconvenience that the traffic may have caused drivers in the downtown area. We are
moving expeditiously to distribute the pantry items and hot lunches to the seniors.
The Replenish Your Refrigerator event is a Drive-Thru Lotus Food Pantry hosted by EBRCOA in response to the need of seniors who lost food as a result of Hurricane Ida.
