EBRSO: Argument leads to shooting at local residence, suspect surrenders after barricading inside home

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting on Independence Day.

Deputies arrived around 2:40 p.m. at a home located on D’Juanna Dr. and determined that a gathering had taken place at the residence.

An investigation ensued and deputies figured out that an argument led to a shooting.

56-year-old Kelvin Gilmore is accused of shooting multiple times at a niece and nephew.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, “prior to firing the handgun, Gilmore made several verbal threats that he was going to kill the victims.”

Gilmore was arrested after barricading himself inside the home.

The 56-year-old man is currently in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison facing these charges:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Illegal Use of a Weapon
