Richard Jiles, Jr. has been arrested and charged with principal to second-degree murder for a homicide that occurred outside The Armstrong Apartments in early 2019.
On Jan. 5, 2019, EBRSO Homicide detectives were called to The Armstrong located at 4600 Burbank Dr.. in reference to a shooting. Detectives learned that a victim and his girlfriend were walking toward their apartment when a white four-door sedan was observed pulling into the parking lot and gunshots were heard. The boyfriend was shot several times and later died as a result of his injuries.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, an extensive investigation into surveillance cameras and cellphone towers lead detectives to Jiles, who was the owner of the white Mazda 6 sedan identified in surveillance video. The car was seen following the victim and his girlfriend from a local business back to the apartment complex.
Jiles agreed to questioning, but could not provide an alibi for the time in which the shooting occurred. Cellphone tower records also indicated that Jiles phone was in the area around the victim’s apartment before the victim left to go to the local business. Jiles admitted to owning and operating the white four-door Mazda 6 sedan, which was apparently totaled in 2019.
