BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)- The East Baton Rouge School is system is announcing its 2021-2022 COVID-19 guidance.
During the fall semester, students and staff are required to wear a face mask.
“We have followed the data, science, and experts,” said Superintendent Dr. Sito Narcisse. “Based upon the recommendations of our Health Advisory Committee, we are confident that we can continue to provide an excellent education for our students and a safe teaching environment for our staff.”
All students will return to in-person learning. However, virtual learning is an option if a student test positive for the virus.
Students who show symptoms during class will be sent to a self-quarantine room or isolation room until they take a test or go home. Contact tracing will also be implemented to inform parents of any positive cases.
Dr. Catherine O’Neal, Our Lady of the Lake medical director for infection and disease, is part of the EBRSS medical team. O’Neal says s in-person learning with covid mitigations can work.
“Masking during a time of surge is one of the most important things we can do,” she said.

The guidance will be updated throughout the school year depending on Covid-19 cases in the community.
“We know that the majority of our students and families are eager to return to a sense of normalcy, and we are confident that the following guidance allows them to do so safely,” Narcisse said.
