The U.S. Department of Education named eight Baton Rouge Magnet High School students Presidential Scholar candidates, the highest number of candidates at one school statewide.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program recognizes and honors the nation’s most distinguished high school seniors, and the honor is one of the highest high school students can attain, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

Students are selected for the honor based on their ACT and SAT scores, and Presidential Scholars are honored at the White House.
