Emergency Order keeps Louisiana tattoo shops closed ‘until further notice’

BATON ROUGE, La. (WDSU) – An emergency order keeps Louisiana tattoo shops closed ‘until further notice.’

The order, signed by the State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry, states ‘all commercial body art facilities are closed indefinitely.’

Thursday evening, the Louisiana Department of Health’s website was updated to say ‘closed until further notice.’

Tattoo shop owners like Robyn Champagne said they’re concerned about this order.

“Those words indefinitely kind of are alarming and we’re really scared right now. We don’t know what the future of our business is going to hold,” said Robyn Champagne, the owner of Wicked 13 Tattoos.

Champagne says a group of tattoo artists are coming together to figure out what they can do next if they’re not part of phase two of the state’s reopening plan.

“Quite a few of us are working with a lawyer right now. Mississippi had a class-action lawsuit and that’s how they were allowed to open. Texas, same thing. Three days before, they dropped the suit and allowed them to open. We are prepared to go that route if need be because this is extremely unconstitutional at this point,” she said.
