EMS Explorer Post hosting open house for program

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRProud) – The East Baton Rouge EMS Explorer Post is a program that teaches young people ages 14-20 years old basic first-aid skills and CPR.

Once a member has achieved certification they are permitted to work with EMS Paramedics on an ambulance, observe the 911 center, and provide first-aid at public events in the Baton Rouge area.

The EMS Explorer Post is open to all young adults between 14-20 years old. The “First Nighter” event is an open house type event where interested youth can attend with their parents to learn about the program and join.

Once enrolled in the program, you are trained in basic first-aid and CPR. Upon completion of the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class, members are then allowed to fully participate in EMS activities. Explorer Members gain exposure to the Pre-Hospital field at an early age.

Members are allowed to engage with the public and gain experience and confidence. Once a member turns 18 years old, and decides that a career in the medical field is right for them, they can further their education and enroll in either an EMT or Paramedic class East Baton Rouge EMS employs EMT’s and Paramedics for various roles within the department.

Explorer Members who achieve EMT or Paramedic can then apply for a position at EMS! The “First Nighter” meeting will be January 15th, 2022. It is free to attend. The cost to join the Post is $235.
