BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Submissions for the 14th annual Ernest J. Gaines Literary Award, which highlights literary work from rising African-American authors, will be open until Monday, Aug. 31.
The Baton Rouge Area Foundation presents the award, which also recognizes the contributions of Louisiana native and revered storyteller Gaines, according to a BRAF press release.
The 2020 award will feature fiction pieces, either short-stories or novel collections, that were published this year.
The winner, whom a panel of professional writers and academics selects, will receive a $15,000 cash prize and will be involved in educational activities at selected area schools and after-school programs to emphasize the role of the arts and literature in education, according to the award’s website.
