BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A man known as a local hero will be laid to rest during the week of December 19.
Captain Walker L. Hill of the Baton Rouge Fire Department (BRPD) passed away while serving his community.
BRPD says Hill suffered a medical emergency while on duty Saturday, December 17.
The community is invited to support Hill’s family and colleagues by attending his Thursday, December 22 funeral, which is set to take place at Istrouma Baptist Church (10500 Sam Rushing Road). The wake will be from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at 12 noon.
BRFD adds that prior to the service, a Monday morning procession will occur as Hill’s remains are moved from Our Lady of the Lake Hospital to Resthaven Funeral Home.
The procession will begin at 10 a.m. and start at Essen Lane before moving on to I-12 and then exiting at Airline Highway. The procession will come to a conclusion at Jefferson Highway.
Members of the public who wish to show their respect are invited to line up along safe areas of the route.

Captain Hill was known for his deep commitment to the citizens of Baton Rouge. While serving, he was honored to receive four live saving awards as well as two fire service excellence citations.
BRFD asks the community to keep Captain Hill’s family and colleagues in their thoughts and prayers, adding, “Captain Hill’s memory will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, Brother Hill; we have the watch from here.”
