Female Louisiana National Guard member passes away in “off-duty incident”

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A member of the Louisiana Army National Guard has died.

This is the second reported death of a Louisiana National Guard member in the last week.

23-year-old Spc. Nashyra S. Whitaker, “died in an off-duty incident that occurred on Sept. 5,” according to the Louisiana National Guard.

Whitaker was a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard for over two years prior to her death.

The 23-year-old was part of the Louisiana Army National Guard’s Company E, 199th Brigade Support Battalion, 769th Brigade Engineer Battalion.

That battalion is based in Baton Rouge.

Some of Whitaker’s accomplishments include:

  • The earning of the military occupational specialty of 92A, automated logistical specialist
  • Awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon

Whitaker is “survived by her mother and father,” according to the Louisiana National Guard.

The McAllen Police Department is currently investigating the death of Spc. Nashyra S. Whitaker.
