BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA/WGMB) — The first baby born in Baton Rouge after the New Year is a girl. The mother Alexis Veal, welcomed the new baby girl at 4:28 a.m. at Baton Rouge General hospital.

She weighed 5 lbs., 4 oz. when she arrived at BRG’s Birth Center. Both mom and baby are doing well, according to a spokesperson with Baton Rouge General.

The baby girl has yet to be named. Baton Rouge General staff say they plan to shower the baby with new gifts on her special “birthday.”
