BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – According to local officials, one pedestrian was killed and a second was injured in a Tuesday (December 13) afternoon crash.

The deadly wreck reportedly occurred around 3 p.m. within the 12000 block of Florida Boulevard, and according to the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office, the victim who was killed experienced multi-system trauma as a result of the crash.

BRPD says the driver of a 2010 Toyota Scion was traveling east on Florida Boulevard when the driver tried to merge, they hit another car. The impact caused the car to lose control and strike two pedestrians who were walking on the shoulder. One pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, the other was taken to a local hospital with mild injuries.

As of Tuesday evening, the identity of the deceased has not been released.

This tragic incident is at least the second fatal crash involving a pedestrian to have occurred since Monday.
