BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A member of the Baton Rouge Police Department noticed a vehicle without a license plate while on patrol this weekend.
The officer was in the area of Choctaw Dr. and Plank Rd. when a traffic stop was initiated and ignored by the driver of the vehicle.
The driver was later identified as Stanley Harris, 55, of Baton Rouge.
Harris proceeded to lead the officer on a chase at excessive speeds.
The 55-year-old allegedly drove through “multiple stop signs, traffic lights and ran off the roadway multiple times,” according to the affidavit.
The driving part of the chase came to an end at an apartment on Mohican-Prescott Crossover.
The affidavit states that Harris “drove his vehicle into the metal fencing which is the entrance gate for the apartment complex.”
After coming to a stop, Harris led the officer on a foot chase.
The officers was not able to stop Harris with a taser.
Harris went into the apartment and was followed by two officers.
The Baton Rouge man was eventually arrested and searched at the scene.
A search of Harris and his vehicle uncovered a crack pipe and sawed-off shotgun with no serial number.
Harris was taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with the crimes listed below:
- Aggravated Criminal Damage To Property
- Poss/Deal Firearms Obliterated Number/Mark
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
The 55-year-old remains behind bars on Tuesday afternoon.
