LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – One person is in custody after a Wednesday, March 22 French Settlement shooting that left one man with critical injuries.

According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, the shot was fired around 4 p.m. along Highway 16 in French Settlement. Upon arriving at the location, deputies say they found the wounded man and he was rushed to an area hospital for treatment.

As of Wednesday evening, healthcare workers have labeled the man’s condition as critical yet stable.

The person in LPSO custody is linked to other recent incidents that may have involved a gun, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Jason Ard said, “During this investigation, LPSO was also alerted to ‘possible shots fired calls’ at other locations in the Springfield area.  No injuries have been reported. We believe the suspect in custody can be tied to all reported incidents.”

LPSO’s investigation into both the French Settlement shooting and the ‘shots fired’ reports in Springfield remains ongoing.
