BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)- The East Baton Rouge School Board elected Leslie Brown as their new Superintendent.
Brown speaks on how the parish is preparing for a school year that has never faced challenges like this years before.
While students are going back to school during the coronavirus pandemic, students are also facing issues in today’s racial climate.
The East Baton Rouge Parish is made up of 80 percent or more of just African American students, Brown says the district is making sure all families are staying connected during unprecedented times.
“We set up hotspots in communities where we knew there might be some concerns with access around schools as well as administration,” said Brown. “We have some students that have a high mobility rate so they have to change resident or go live with another person in their family that hotspot goes with them. “
