WALKER, La. (BRPROUD) – A fundraiser and a separate GoFundMe effort have been launched to help the family of a Walker police officer who suffered a stroke on Friday, May 8.

After having a hemorrhagic stroke in his home, Officer John Hanna went to Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans before being transferred to a Baton Rouge rehabilitation facility, according to the GoFundMe’s organizers.

Organizers Sgt. Laura Jenkins and Douglas Mincin wrote that donations through the online fundraiser will help pay Hanna’s medical bills and support his family until he can return to work. Hanna and his wife have two young children and are expecting a third child later this year, according to Jenkins and Mincin.

Within three days, $865 of the fundraiser’s $5,000 goal was donated. Click here to donate to Hanna’s GoFundMe.

The Walker Police Association and Sombreros Mexican Restaurant partnered to create another fundraiser for Hanna.
