BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – An incident of domestic abuse that left a woman injured and ended with her attacker in handcuffs unfolded over the weekend, authorities say.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO), it was Saturday (September 17) night when 35-year-old Carlos Diaz was riding his bicycle in the Gardere area.

EBRSO deputies say his former partner was in her car, stopped at a red light on the corner of GSRI Avenue and Gardere Lane when Diaz rode by on his bicycle and struck her in the face with his fist before fleeing the scene.

Public records indicate the attack left the woman with a bloody and swollen lip as well as a deep cut.

Deputies say when they caught up with Diaz, he admitted to punching her.

An affidavit adds that even before this incident, the woman was granted a temporary restraining order against Diaz.

Deputies say the 35-year-old man was arrested on charges that included domestic abuse battery and violation of protective orders.
