PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – Ascension Parish council member Corey Orgeron is the target of a recall petition.
Signatures for the Recall Corey Orgeron petition were collected on Thursday at The Village Market and Deli on Hwy 73.
That was the official kickoff for the recall effort and more signing events like this are coming very soon.
This all started last month when the Ascension Parish Council voted to remove Parish President Clint Cointment from the drainage projects board.
In July, the Ascension Parish Planning and Zoning Commission approved subdivision development plans.
The co-chair of the group that wants to recall Corey Orgeron, Donna Jones, said this, “citizens have repeatedly spoken at council meetings begging the council to do something to stop building and fix infrastructure and drainage as the new homes being built up will flood neighbors.”
Jones followed by saying, “we are tired of flooding and not being heard.”
That is how the Recall Corey Orgeron petition came to be and signatures are still to be collected, according to Jones.
If you are interested in adding your name to the petition, these Recall Corey Orgeron signing events are already scheduled:
- On Friday, July 23 at the The Sleep Inn on Hwy 73. beginning at 3 p.m
- On Saturday, July 24, at 17497 Airline Hwy. from 10 am until 2 p.m.
- On Sunday, July 25, at 38223 Duplessis Rd. from 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Ascension Parish resident Elena Ruiz already put her name on the petition.
Ruiz is lending her time to the Recall Corey Orgeron effort because as she says, the councilman “does not represent the people of Ascension Parish.”
Corey Orgeron has been contacted about the recall petition and we are awaiting a response from the Ascension Parish Council member.
