A Bay Area man is sharing his remarkable story about last weekend’s visit to the Valspar Golf Championship in Palm Harbor.

In the middle of the tournament, all eyes were drawn to an osprey that caught a large fish in a pond. Spectators lined the fairways and greens to catch a glimpse of the action.

“That’s on osprey, isn’t it? Look at that. Get it up!” an NBC Sports announcer is heard saying in a video that has since gone viral.

Then the hungry bird dropped his dinner near a sand trap.

“Look at that. A fan comes out and grabs the fish.  Is he going to throw it in the water?  Wow! “I’ll tell you that osprey is not going to be happy with him,” the announcer said.

Ryan McDevitt is the fan who jumped in to save the fish.  He says the same exact thing happened in the mid-90s during the JC Penny Classic.

“The very same hole, and the very same pond,” McDevitt added.

“I was going crazy.  I couldn’t believe the fish dropped. I waited for them to drop the lines for the spectators to cross and just ran out there, grabbed it. Threw it in the water and everybody went crazy,” he said.

According to McDevitt, the fish swam off to live another day.

McDevitt says he plans to be at next year’s event.

“I will position myself at the 12th green, 13th tee.”
