GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – The City of Gonzales Police Department is issuing a warning to residents about a phone scam.

Scammers are trying to take advantage of those who have to pay off a warrant or ticket.

The scammers are acting like they are an officer with the City of Gonzales Police Department.

Reports from the community state that the scammers “are using actual names of GPD Officers.”

If you receive a call like this, go ahead and hang up the phone.

CGPD would like to make it clear that they will “never contact you and request any form of cash payment (ex: GreenDot, CashAp, Venmo, PayPal) over the phone for warrants or tickets.”

You should be suspicious if someone requests payment over the phone and you did not make the call.

The City of Gonzales Police Department suggested that you “not send or provide any form of payment over the phone.”
