For the third time, Governor Edwards extends phase two of reopening Louisiana.
This means the statewide mask mandate, bar closures and limited size gatherings will be in place for an additional three weeks.
“It’s not asking too much to ask people to wear a mask to protect others,” Edwards said. “Mask wearing, [social] distancing and bar closures absolutely work.”
Health officials say the state is finally starting to see some improvements, but we still have a ways to go.
“By no means are we out of the woods,” Dr. Alex Billioux said.
Roughly 50,000 people are infected with COVID-19 around the state and officials say it could be more.
“We’re going to do everything in we can in Louisiana to test as much as we can,” Edwards said.
The new order ends on Aug. 28th. Edwards says he wants all Louisiana to continue to practice safety measures and be good neighbors. Edwards says blood and plasma donations are still needed. He’s encouraging everyone, especially those who recovered from the virus, to donate.
