Gov. Edwards: “I hope we don’t have to put any more restrictions back in place”

Across the state, businesses opened their doors for the first time in nearly two months.

“It’s a big day for the state of Louisiana as the stay-at-home order has been lifted and we move into phase one.”

Governor John Bel Edwards said, we got to this point because of the efforts of the people of the state, and says he’s optimistic about the future.

“This is one of those place where, though I am confident, we’re going to watch it very very carefully.”

While many across Louisiana are planning to get out to enjoy a weekend outside of their homes. Governor Edwards said, everyone needs to be mindful of what they are doing to prevent the state from going the wrong direction.

“You never want to fight for bleed and die for the same terrain twice. Um, and so we don’t want to go back to having the kind of case counts and case growth that we had just several weeks ago.”

He said, part of the battle is over but the war against covid-19 is on-going.

“We’re not going to fully get back to normal until sometime after a vaccine has been developed, proven safe and effective.”

As the state proves to be in a better position than it was weeks ago. The governor says, it’s critical that everyone take this seriously.

“I hope we don’t have to put any more restrictions back in place or go backwards.”
