Gov. Edwards to hold briefing on mask mandate next week

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Gov. Edwards is currently in Washington, D.C. and will be returning to Louisiana on Friday afternoon.

The governor is going to have an important update next week.

Edwards is scheduled to hold a briefing on Tuesday or Wednesday where the governor will “discuss the public health emergency and the mask mandate.”

At that time, it will be almost a month since Governor Edwards extended the statewide mask mandate.

Gov. Edwards took part in a radio call-in program on Wednesday called, “Ask the Governor.”

During the program, Edwards said this about the coronavirus in Louisiana, “Things are much better than they were several weeks ago when we were in the midst of the fourth surge.”

Gov. Edwards spoke about the drop in positivity rate, COVID-19 hospitalizations and the wearing of masks in schools.

Edwards says he has not made a decision yet about the mask mandate.
