Gov. John Bel Edwards is holding a press conference on his opponent in the governor’s race, Republican businessman Eddie Rispone, and Rispone’s plan to undo Medicaid expansion in Louisiana.
Edwards is focusing on Rispone’s plan to “freeze” Medicaid enrollment at current levels until wasteful spending is eliminated.
Edwards’ first official act as governor was signing an executive order to expand Medicaid coverage to 430,000 of Louisiana’s working poor, cutting the state’s uninsured rate from 24% to 10%.
Medicaid expansion is also a key part of Edwards’ reelection campaign.
