BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Governor John Bel Edwards publicly commended Louisiana’s employees days after the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) released statistics indicating that the state continues to set unemployment records.

Governor Edwards took to social media to say, “I believe the best of the best are represented in Louisiana’s workforce. And the numbers agree. Our unemployment rate is below the national average and we’ve set a record for the lowest unemployment in state history for the third month in a row.”

A September 16 update from LWC harmonized with Edwards statement.

The update said, “Louisiana’s August 2022 seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 3.5 percent. This is a record low for the rate and is the third consecutive month that Louisiana has set a new unemployment rate record.”

The Louisiana-based industries that saw the most growth over the past month were government jobs and professional and business services.
