Grocery store sales soar, workers fight to match influx


BATON ROUGE, La. (FOX 44) (LOCAL 33) “It’s been crazy. It’s been nonstop. It’s been record sales, I mean it’s been nothing but a buying frenzy,” Ralph’s Market General Manager Norman Thompson said.

A frenzy grocery store owners are calling unprecedented.

“This is the best couple of weeks financially for the grocery store that we’ve ever had probably in history. I haven’t looked at those numbers yet but I know they can’t be far off,” Calandro’s Assistant Manager Blaze Calandro III said.

Grocery stores across the capitol region are struggling to keep their shelves stocked.

“Everybody’s working can to cane, our team has done a great job just trying to take care of the customers, working long days long hours, doing everything they can do just to try and get it out there,” Thompson said.

Long hours through day and night.

“We come in at 4 am and we don’t leave until 10 at night,” Thompson said.

Customers are ravaging stores looking for a hot commodity.

“Number one question is do you have any toilet paper??” Grocery Store Manager Seburn Dunn said.

Employees are hanging in there, Dunn said he is happy to stay busy.

“It just keeps me hopping at all times, I am happy to help the community at any time. Any time we are able to get our trucks on time and get our stuff on the shelves as soon as possible,” Dunn said.
