WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – Local and state officials are joining DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson at a LA 1 Intracoastal groundbreaking ceremony on Friday morning.
The groundbreaking ceremony is taking place at 11 a.m. in West Baton Rouge Parish.
According to the Department of Transportation and Development, “This $57.7 million project, which began in early April, will replace the current southbound bridge with a new bridge that will be constructed on the west side of the existing structure, in addition to realigning Ernest Wilson Drive and LA 1 to connect with the new bridge.”
As long as weather allows, the contractor on this project estimates that the project will be done during the summer of 2023.
DOTD says, “Until the new southbound bridge is completed, vehicles will remain on the current alignment, at which time, both south and northbound traffic will be shifted to the new bridge.”
