BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A ruptured gas line on North Sherwood Forest Boulevard was the cause of a temporary lane closure Monday (September 19) afternoon.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department (BRFD), local hazmat crews, Entergy representatives, and officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) rushed to the scene shortly after 12 noon.

By 1:44 p.m., the gas was shut of and Entergy was given control of the scene, to oversee repairs of the ruptured line.

According to BRFD, the situation unfolded when the gas line within the 2400 block of North Sherwood Forest was ruptured while construction crews were digging.

BRFD described the line as a four-inch main, and add that no evacuations were deemed necessary.
