DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (BRPROUD) – The Denham Springs Police Department and Denham Springs Fire Department responded to a call about a “suspicious smell” early Monday (October 31) morning, around 6:15 a.m.
The unidentified smell came from the post office located at 140 Del Orleans Ave.
According to the City of Denham Springs Fire Department, investigators discovered a leaking package of cleaning solvent in the building.
By Monday afternoon, the package was disposed of.
DSPD confirmed that three people were taken to a hospital.
There is no word on the condition of those who were transported to the hospital.
None of the leaked chemicals were considered toxic.
The post office is opening on Tuesday morning and will resume normal business hours.
The LSP hazardous materials team provided help at the scene.
