- Maintain a healthy diet and weight
- Eat a heart healthy diet
- That includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy, beans, certain types of fish and low-fat protein
- Exercise for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week
- Avoid smoking
- Limit alcohol consumption
- Get regular health screenings
