BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A deadly shooting occurred along north Baton Rouge’s Winnebago Street shortly before 4:30 p.m., Sunday (June 5), and resulted in one man’s death. 

According to officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), 24-year-old Deonte Veal was killed around 4:17 p.m. in the 1300 block of Winnebago Street.

Police say Veals died at the scene of the crime and that detectives are working to determine what suspects were involved.

Baton Rouge officials responded to the scene of a deadly shooting on Winnebago Street, Sunday, June 5 around 4:27 p.m.

Incidentally, shortly after this fatal incident, police were called to the scene of a second shooting on nearby Geronimo Street.

Sources say officials who were responding to the Winnebago Street shooting could hear gunshots ringing out on Geronimo Street, around 5:30 p.m.

As of Sunday evening, police have not indicated that the two incidents are related.
