Heron rescued from fishing net

A woman saved an injured Great Blue Heron in Point Clear Monday afternoon, helping to free the bird after it was found with a fishing net around its beak near The Grand Hotel. This isn’t the first time she’s had to cut fishing line or a net from a bird on the Eastern Shore.

A pelican was spotted near Fly Creek Marina on Monday with fishing line wrapped around its leg.

Both recent events serve as a reminder not to leave items behind on the beach, or in the water, to help keep wildlife from becoming entangled.

News 5’s Blake Brown is speaking with the woman who helped with the rescue this week. We will update this story with her interview and rescue video later today.
