High school football star Elijah Simmons goes viral, again

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Pearl Cohn’s Elijah Simmons continues to make a big impression everywhere he goes.

The Tennessee football signee burst into the national spotlight during the NFL Draft when he took the stage with other Metro football players.  Houston Texans star JJ Watt called him a “beast” and wanted to know if the Texans could draft him now.

Simmons was easy to spot, he’s about 6-2 and 350 pounds. That is massive by even football standards making his social media post this week even more amazing.  Simmons posted a video of himself dunking a basketball and then grabbing a ball and tossing it 90 feet and into the hoop!

It is a remarkable sight for anyone who watches it.  Simmons could not dunk until recently when he dropped 20 pounds and says he wanted to send a message, “I know there are a lot of big guys out there that can do it, I just actually put it out there and showed that we can do it!”

Pearl Cohn head coach Tony Brunetti has seen Simmons’ evolution and says it did not surprise him, “He’s trained so hard these last five weeks on getting more lean, more powerful. I knew he could dunk it with ease but to see him dunk the basketball then turn and fire it to the other endzone or other end of the court that’s amazing.”

Simmons was a 3-star prospect according to Rivals.com and picked Tennessee over Missouri and Memphis.
