BATON ROUGE, La. (BRProud) – With support from Home Bank, on Friday, May 8, local charter boarding school Thrive Academy celebrated the Class of 2020 with a virtual senior banquet complete with a special dinner, video and awards.
Senior students and their families picked up awards and a family meal from the school on Friday afternoon. The drive-thru pick-up lane was lined with photos of each senior printed on yard signs. Cheering Home Bank employees welcomed the students with a pep-rally style drive thru.
“Last year, we helped Thrive’s first graduating class celebrate their accomplishments with an awards banquet at Drusilla’s Restaurant, and we want the class of 2020 to feel that same sense of pride and excitement,” Brandon Kelly, Home Bank’s Community Reinvestment Officer said. “This year, even though we couldn’t gather together, we made sure each senior’s family had a celebratory meal from Drusilla’s, and we found a creative way to bring the awards ceremony into each of their homes.”
Later Friday evening at home, seniors and families watched a pre-recorded video from their teachers and mentors at Home Bank. According to Home Bank, the 23 graduating seniors earned school honors, and a total of $357,037 in scholarships and grants. Awards such as $5,000 in scholarships from Home Bank and scholarships from other sponsors were announced during the banquet.
“This is something Home Bank wanted to do to show Thrive and its students that we’re here to support them and celebrate with them.” Kelly said. “Our relationship with Thrive goes beyond this one event. We’ve been connected with the school since its beginning, and our volunteers have taught financial literacy classes with these students throughout their high school careers. This was a special moment for all of us, despite the unusual circumstances.”
