BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD – The East Baton Rouge Parish’s non-compliant business hotline started because of the rise in COVID-19 cases.

If you see a business not following the reopening guidelines, you can call the hotline without leaving your name.

The hotline is to report if a business is not following state reopening guidelines. In a phase two reopening businesses can only have a certain percentage of it’s maximum capacity.
That’s to help with social distancing and avoiding large crowds. Also, employees must wear a mask.

Medical experts say East Baton Rouge Parish is seeing a resurgence of the virus with a daily uptick in hospitalizations. Since the hotline started there have been five complaints. Three of those are about restaurants, one about a bar and another about a non-food business. Baton Rouge police officers are reminding business owners about the guidelines.

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced the hotline during a news conference on Friday.

“If we get repeat offenders, then I will take additonal action within my power. Certainly engaing the state fire marshal and make a decision in terms of whether that business should remain open,” said Mayor Broome.

The hotline numbers is 225-389-8875. Someone will answer the phone if you call the hotline during normal business hours. You can leave a message any other time.

There is also an online form you can fill out to report a non-compliant business.
