BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Christmas is over, and for some that leaves the question of where to dispose of the tree.

More than 40 thousand tons of trash is collected each week. That number increases during this time of year, due to the boxes that presents were in as well as those huge Christmas trees. Each parish is doing something different to get the trees off your hands. For East Baton Rouge, they say to put it at the end of the street but for Ascension parish, they need you to drop it off.

“Every day that you typically put out you’re out of cart trash or anything that’s too big for the garbage bin. That’s when you should be putting out your Christmas tree as well,” explained Mark Armstrong, Chief Communications Officer.

Ascension Parish Communication Director and Public Information Officer, Brandon Gatlin, followed. “People can come to Lamar Dixon Expo Center right on Landry Road. There’s signage at the very front. It will direct you where you can drop your Christmas tree off and we will dispose of it in a wonderfully environmentally responsible manner.”

Starting Wednesday, they will collect those trees. Both recommend recycling cardboard boxes to help the planet.
