TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WDSU) – The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s office has tested hundreds of their employees for COVID-19.
Sheriff-Elect Tim Soignet said nearly 300 employees were tested Wednesday morning.
He said the department worked with the insurance company to cover the costs and there is no out-of-pocket expense for the department.
“We are trying to be as proactive as possible with this virus so we could minimize as much risk as possible,” Soignet said. “We certainly don’t want our law enforcement force to be hit by this very hard. We may be dealing with this for another month or two we have got to be prepared for the long haul.”
Soignet said three officers tested positive, none were showing symptoms.
The three officers have been quarantined.
Soignet said test results also showed five other employees had the virus and have recovered. Two of the five we quarantined weeks ago after showing symptoms.
