I-10 widening woes: DOTD wraps up first public meeting

Louisiana’s Department of Transportation wrapped up its first public meeting regarding the I-10 widening project Tuesday afternoon.

We’re told the state plans to fund this project by purchasing several businesses and homes in the construction site area.

BRProud.com caught up with some of those homeowners who didn’t know about this until we brought it to their attention tonight.

“We have a lot of memories here, we’ve been here for more than 24 years,” said local homeowner Issac White.

“All of my grandkids – born, and growing up there and stuff like that.”

In the latest update Tuesday evening, we’re told by transportation authorities that the homes and businesses being cleared out are all apart of a $360 million plan.

“We’re going to be working with each of those property owners from today on, where we will sit at our station tonight and say here’s your address,” said Shawn Wilson, DOTD secretary.

“You’re not impacted by the right a way acquisition. If you are, we’ll start that process to say we might need a servitude, which means I want to use some of that property to be able to build this widening and then I give the property after the sound walls.”
